About
700 BC Poseidonia (in the honor of the Greek God Poseidon) was founded
and developed further to an important Greek colony in the Magna Graecia.
The 3 beautiful temples were built between 550
and 450 BC.
About 300 BC the Romans conquested the city and renamed it to Paestum.
The whole plain of the river Sele is very fertile and is the origin of
the well known mozzarella cheese. Agropoli is a nice village situated at the South corner of the bay of Salerno. There is a small marina inside the harbor. It can be used as starting point to visit Paestum. More information at: wikipedia or http://www.paestum.it |
